PT Angkasa Pura Schiphol launched Saphire, an advanced and secure border passage system using iris recognition at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

The Ministry of Law & Human Rights - Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Hamid Awaludin today officially opened a new exclusive airport service program called SAPHIRE at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Also present at the launching ceremony were Mr. Edie Haryoto, President Director of PT (Persero) Angkasa Pura II, Mr. Basyir Ahmad Barmawi, Director General of Directorate of Immigration and Mr. Djoko Santoso, President Director of PT. Angkasa Pura Schiphol.

Saphire-Nokia Partnership

In September 2006, Saphire became a promotional partner of Nokia. The first 500 people registered as a member of Nokia Premium Community, will be awarded by Nokia with a one-year complimentary Saphire membership, among other facilities.

Nokia Premium Community is an exclusive community for Nokia premium cellular-phone owners. Nokia Premium Community was introduced simultaneously with the launching of Nokia’s new generation of premium cellular-phone 8800 Sirocco Edition – The Natural Masterpiece, which was held on 20^th September 2006 at Grand Ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Jakarta, and was highlighted by the performance of well-known international jazz singer, Laura Fygi.

Notification of Soft Operation

The Dutch Prime Minister, Mr. J.P. Balkenende, on his 2 days visit to Indonesia, tried out on April 8^th, 2006, the latest technology deployed in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport for immigration clearence : the Automatic Boder Passage using iris recognition. The Automatic Boder Passage is one of the privileges of  Saphire, the airport priority program developed by PT. Angkasa Pura Schiphol and Directorate General of Immigration. With this, he witnessed the start of the operation of Saphire.

At the moment, Saphire is in soft operation.  In this period Saphire members can enjoy the privilege of using Automatic Border Passage (ABP) to fast track through immigration both upon Departure and Arrival. State-of-the-art iris recognition technology is used.  Border passage takes only 10 seconds. Also members can enjoy the privilege of preferred check-in at the airline participating in Saphire program. The other privileges, preferred parking and preferred security lanes can be enjoyed in a few weeks time.

Anyone who fulfills the immigration requirements can join the Saphire program. People joining during the soft operation are entitled to a reduced annual fee.
